The Enugu State Government has pledged to intensify efforts to improve sexual, reproductive, maternal and neonatal health services across healthcare facilities, with a focus on identifying gaps and improving access to quality care for women and newborns.
Penpushing reports that Commissioner for Health, Prof. George Ugwu, gave the assurance at a stakeholders’ meeting in Enugu to discuss findings from the state’s Sexual, Reproductive, Maternal and Neonatal Health mid-line assessment, supported by the Clinton Health Access Initiative.
The assessment examined progress and challenges in service delivery, including coordination, data systems, health commodities and supply chains, while stakeholders also identified the need for sustained attention to healthcare workers, equipment and essential medical supplies.
Penpushing further reports that Ugwu said the state’s ongoing healthcare investments were supporting improvements in infrastructure and service delivery, stressing that the findings would help guide future interventions and strengthen the availability of essential commodities needed to provide reproductive, maternal and newborn healthcare.
