The future of any Nation is embedded in the nurturing and proper upbringing of younger generations, as Nations around the world celebrate International Youth Day on Monday, August 12, 2024 there ought to be a need to dissect the plight of Nigerian Youths.

Nigeria youths are faced with enormous challenges linking to the deprivation of some privileges, in the third quarter of year 2023, youth unemployment rate in Nigeria increased to 8.60 percentage from 7.20 percentage in the second quarter of same year. As at March 2021 the youth constitute 64 percentage of unemployed population.

However, to cushion the effects of youth unemployment, the Nigerian government needs to take cognisance the plight of Nigerian Youths by providing enabling and conducive environment for the youth.

The educational standard within the Nation needs to be addressed because education is the bedrock of any Nation, the youths who are well informed today will transform the future of the nation as education is the passport into the future.

Nigeria youths hope lies in the renewed hope agenda of the present administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the initiative of the federal government which is the Nigeria education loan fund (NELFund) has been seen as a welcome development to cater for the educational needs of students within higher institutions of learning as the youth constitute larger percentage, this will make every higher institution students not to be deprived of their access to education.

Rising insecurity in the country is another issue which has affected the safety of Nigerian Youths as youths most times falls victim of the rising cases of kidnapping, if there is enough establishment of businesses by government, there will be less kidnapping.

Corruption which has been the cankerworm in the nation’s political sector has hindered the progress of the youth from opportunities to explore the benefits embedded within the Nation.

The current economic hardship in Nigeria has led to the involvement of some youths in illegal activities like cybercrime, the government needs to take proper attention into the yearnings of the youth because the youth constitute the higher percentage of Nigeria’s population, the policies of government must be youth friendly, the Nigerian government policy on youths categorise youth around individuals within 18-29 years of age.

There ought to be policies and laws that should be duly executed to have an high impact on the conduct of the youths because the strength we have as an indivisible nation is centered on the youths, youths will play a huge role in the future and preservation of Nigeria’s heritage.
