The National Industrial Court of Nigeria in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FT) has ordered the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to desist from their proposed strike in protest against the removal of subsidy from Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS).
Penpushing reports that Justice Olufunke Anuwe gave the order on Monday after hearing an ex parte request from the Nigerian government, and citing the affidavit of the government argued by Maimuna Shiru of the Federal Ministry of Justice, agreed that the strike would disrupt socio-economic activities and unleash hardship on the citizenry.
The judge gave the order amid ongoing marathon meetings between the representatives of the Nigerian government and Labour leaders, further ordered the government to serve the originating summons on the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC).
Penpushing further reports that the judge emphasized that the respondents are restrained from embarking on any strike action of any nature pending the determination of the motion on notice dated 5 June, and subsequently adjourned the suit until 19 June.
