Distinguished guests, the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council; leaders of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) here present; the Vice President, Zone B, Comrade Adeola Adekunle; the Zonal Secretary, Comrade Adeola Adewole; my sister, Tosin, with whom I share the same Federal Government’s pot; the newly elected Chairperson of NAWOJ, Ogun State Council; members of the association; and my dear colleagues.

I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to stand before you today as I formally hand over the affairs of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ogun State Council, to the newly elected leadership.

The past six months have been a period of responsibility, service, learning and, indeed, memorable experiences. Despite the challenges we encountered, we remained committed to keeping the association active and ensuring that the interests and welfare of our members remained at the heart of our activities.

I am grateful to God Almighty for the strength, wisdom and grace to serve, and for the opportunity to contribute my quota to the development and progress of NAWOJ Ogun State Council.

During my tenure, we initiated and participated in programmes and activities focused on advocacy, sensitisation, professional development, visibility and the welfare of women journalists. These efforts were made possible by the commitment, cooperation and support of our members.

I sincerely appreciate you all for your encouragement, cooperation and support throughout the last six months. Your understanding and goodwill made the responsibility of leading the association easier, and I am grateful to everyone who contributed, in one way or another, to the success of our activities.

For the sake of transparency, I wish to state that there is no financial statement to present at this handover. This is largely due to the issues surrounding the association’s account.

As we begin another chapter, I urge the new administration to build on the gains already made and remain focused on issues that directly affect the lives and professional growth of our members.

The welfare of journalists, capacity building, professional advancement, unity and the visibility of NAWOJ should remain central to the association’s agenda.

I also encourage all members to give the new leadership the necessary cooperation and support. The success of NAWOJ is a collective responsibility, and no administration can succeed without the support and participation of its members.

To the newly elected Chairperson, I warmly congratulate you on your election and wish you a successful and impactful tenure.

Leadership comes with its challenges, but it also provides an opportunity to serve, make a positive impact and leave a lasting legacy. I therefore encourage you to carry everyone along, listen to members, promote unity and work closely with the leadership of NUJ and other relevant stakeholders in advancing the interests of NAWOJ Ogun State Council.

I wish to specially appreciate the leadership of the NUJ Ogun State Council, under the chairmanship of Comrade Wale Victor Olanrewaju, for the support, guidance and cooperation extended to NAWOJ throughout my period of service.

I also appreciate the Secretary of the association, Comrade Omobolaji Adekunle, and most importantly my boss and General Manager of the Paramount FM Abeokuta of Redio Nigeria Oluremi Abi Olugbenro for giving me this great opportunity to serve; and also other members of the executive, leaders who worked with me and contributed to the activities of the association.

Your commitment, guidance and support were instrumental to what we were able to achieve during this period.

I equally appreciate our past leaders, elders and all members who offered valuable advice, encouragement and support throughout the period.

Leadership is a collective responsibility, and I acknowledge the contributions of everyone who helped us navigate the challenges we encountered and kept the association moving forward.

As I hand over today, I do so with a heart full of gratitude and a strong belief that NAWOJ Ogun State Council has a future filled with greater possibilities.

I wish the new administration wisdom, strength, unity and success as it takes over the affairs of the association.

May we continue to place the collective interest of NAWOJ above individual interests and work together to build an association that every woman journalist in Ogun State will be proud to belong to.

Thank you all for your support, cooperation and understanding.

God bless NAWOJ Ogun State Council.

God bless the Nigeria Union of Journalists.

God bless Ogun State.

God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Thank you all.
