The Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) till December 10, 2024 to rule on his bail application.
Penpushing reports that Justice Maryanne Anenih gave the order on Wednesday when the embattled former Governor was arraigned alongside with two others Shuaibu Oricha and Abdulsalam Hudu facing 16 counts brought against them.
The defendants were accused by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of conspiracy, criminal breach of trust and possession of unlawfully obtained property, while earlier the accused pleaded not guilty to charges brought against them.
Penpushing further reports that Anenih fixed the date to rule on the defendant’s bail application after taking arguments for and against the bail request by Bello’s lawyer, Joseph Daudu and the prosecution’s counsel, Kemi Pinheiro.
The former Governor it is recalled had been evading prosecution after leaving office months ago, and was said to been shielded by his successor, Governor Usman Ododo, while the Wednesday arraignment was the first appearance of Bello
