A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Media Consultant with Ogun State Government, Alhaji Sola Lawal has been reported dead at age 61, on Thursday, June 6, 2024.

Penpushing reports that the family in a statement issued by Surajudeen  Adefabi Ogunyemi said the renowned journalist died in Lagos after a brief illness and has been buried according to Islamic rites in Ile-Ife, Osun State, his hometown

‘The families of Ogunyemi and Lawal announce the death of our father, husband and brother, Alhaji Sola Lawal. He was aged 61. He died in Lagos on 6th June, 2024, after a brief illness and has been buried according to Islamic rites’, the statement reads.

Penpushing further reports that the deceased was Otun-Aare Adeen of the Source at Ile Ife Muslim Community in Ile Ife, Osun State, respected politician and astute administrator, who served as the immediate past Chairman of the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority.

The late Lawal was the Special Adviser, Media, Ogun State Governor (1999-2003), Media Consultant, Ogun State Government (2011-2015) and Member, Capital Development Authority, Osun State (2012-2016).

Penpushing also reports that he started his journalism career as a Reporter/Staff Writer, Hotline News Magazine, Kaduna, in 1990, and was promoted to the position of Associate Editor in 1992, after a year, he moved to Concord Press of Nigeria, where he was Chief Correspondent, before moving to Post Express Newspaper, Lagos, in 1996.

The statement stated that he left the organisation in 1999 and later set up his broadcasting outfit, Globe Telly, as the Chief Executive Officer, adding that he was educated at Ansaru-ud-Deen Primary School, Ile-Ife (1976), Erin Community Grammar School, Erin ljesa, Osun State (1981) and Methodist Teachers College, Sagamu, graduating with Teacher’s Grade 11 Certificate (1983).

Penpushing reports that Lawal graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in English from the Obafemi Awolowo University, (OAU), lle-Ife in 1990, and was the author of the book, The Leaders Tongue: A Compendium of Words of Abraham Adesanya.

The family in the statemen made available to Penpushing Media said Lawal was survived by wives, children, brothers and sisters, praying that Allah grant him Aljana Firdaus.
