The factional Emir of Kano Aminu Ado Bayero, has cancelled the Sallah Durbar procession he planned to mark the end of Ramadan fasting, explaining that he made the decision after consultation with elders and clerics who prevailed on him to cancel the procession in the interest of peace.

Penpushing reports that the embattled 15th Emir of Kano, in a broadcast late Wednesday, pleaded with people over his decision to cancelled the planned Durbar arrangement, adding that the ceremony should not be seen as a do-or-die affair

‘’I am pleading with the people over the decision we took. We had to cancel all the planned Durbar arrangement after our respected Islamic clerics and elders prevailed on us to do so, and subsequent consultation with my council members.

“Durbar celebration is not a do or die affair, for me, the peaceful coexistence of the people is much paramount to me than anything. We pray that the decision to suspend the Durbar procession will improve peaceful coexistence of our people and our blessed Kano’, he said.

“I am calling on the people to use the festive period to visit friends and family to improve on cordial relationships. I prayed that the we are among the God’s favour in the blessed month of Ramadan’, Ado-Bayero stated.

Penpushing further reports that earlier, Aminu Ado-Bayero and Lamido Sanusi both claiming emirship position announced their plans for the procession, raising concerns of clashes between their supporters.

The Kano State Police Command has declared its readiness to re-strategise ahead of the planned parallel ceremony marking the end of Ramadan fasting by two factional emirs of the ancient Kano town.

Penpushing also reports that the Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Bakori in response to the earlier planned parallel procession explained that the command is weighing various options to prevent a breakdown of law and order during Durbar processions in the city.

“To mitigate this risk, the Police Command, in liaison with other security agencies in the State, is re-strategising, making consultations, and weighing various options to ensure that law and order are maintained’, he stated.

Penpushing reports that Bakori made this known after he received the state coalition of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) led by Musa Sufi and members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) led by Ali Bayero on a courtesy call to his office on Wednesday.

“In light of the current security issues of concern in the State, the Police Command is aware that certain groups plan to hold parallel celebrations, which may raise tension and lead to violent clashes’, he added.

‘We call on all community leaders, religious leaders and opinion leaders to join us in promoting peace and calming tensions. Together, we can ensure a peaceful and joyous Sallah celebration for all,”

Penpushing further reports that the commissioner, however, called on residents of the state to prioritise peace to maintain peaceful coexistence and calm, and urged them   to remain vigilant.

The police boss equally encouraged them to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the following emergency contact numbers: – 08032419754, 08123821575 and 09029292926

Meanwhile, the duo of Messrs Sufi and Bayero in their remarks explained that their visit was necessary because they were concerned about security in the State ahead of the Sallah Durbar celebrations.
