The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared Kingsley Chinda as its governorship candidate for Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections, after receiving the results of the primaries from collation officers in the 23 local government areas of the state
Penpushing reports that Chairman of the party’s governorship primary election committee and returning officer, Bitrus Kwamoti, made the declaration while announcing the result on Thursday in Port Harcourt.
” I, Kwamoti Bitrus, chairman of the Governorship Primary Election Committee, here have been certified that I am the Returning Officer for the Rivers State Governorship Primary Election held on this day, 21st day of May, 2026’, he said.
“The name of the aspirant, which is the sole aspirant, is Chinda Ogundu Kingsley. He scored the total number of votes, 268, 497. Ogundu Kinsley, having satisfied the requirements of the APC constitution and guidelines and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner of the primary election and is, in return, elected as the party’s governorship candidate for River State.”
Penpushing further reports the party’s primary in the state had attracted attention amid the lingering political crisis in the state and the influence of allies of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, within the party structure.
The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, it would be recalled had announced his withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress (APC)governorship primary election in the state, explaining that his decision followed extensive consultations with his family, friends, and political associates.
Penpushing also reports that Fubara made this known in a statement personally signed on Wednesday, assuring that he would support whoever emerges as the party’s candidate,
