The Ogun State Police Command has commenced investigation into the alleged assault on official of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) involving a police officer attached to Kemta Police Station in Abeokuta.

Penpushing reports that the Command Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the command was aware of the incident and had been referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough probe.

The police spokesperson in a statement issued on Monday, said the command would work with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC to determine what transpired.

‘The Ogun State Police Command is aware of the incident that occurred at Government Technical College involving officers from Kemta Police Station and wishes to inform the public that the matter is currently under investigation, having been referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department’, Babaseyi said

Penpushing further reports that the statement the command investigation would examine the circumstances surrounding the incident to ensure due process and apply sanctions where necessary, just as it reaffirmed the existing collaboration between security agencies operating in the state.

‘The Command will, in collaboration with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, examine the circumstances surrounding the incident exhaustively to ensure due process is followed with a view to apply sanction as appropriate and avoid a repeat of such incident’, he wrote.

Penpushing also reports that the statement added that the command reassured residents that security agencies in the state maintain cordial working relationships in the interest of public safety.

“The Ogun State Police Command reassures members of the public that all security agencies operating within the state are maintaining cordial and collaborative working relationships in the interest of public safety,” Babaseyi said.

Penpushing reports that it would be recalled that the incident was sighted on a viral video circulating on social media alleging police brutality against a civil defence officer.

Meanwhile, eyewitnesses account has it that the crisis began after a man operating a nearby carwash, who had earlier been accused of injuring a student, was reportedly released by the police despite a formal complaint, and the situation, thereafter, got escalated
