The Foundation for Preservation of Yoruba Culture and Heritage on Tuesday held its 2nd Global celebration at the Cinema Hall of June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital which attracted number of membership as well as other notable guests.

Penpushing reports that traditional rulers from the South-West of Nigeria were not left out at the colourful ceremony with the theme,’ Yoruba Ti G’oke Agba’, as well as cultural and traditional display

The organisers explained that the goal of the celebration was aimed to preserve, celebrate, promote Yoruba culture language and heritage in all Yoruba communities and families worldwide.

Penpushing further reports that it was equally designed to teach Yoruba culture and traditions in elementary and secondary schools, as well as to encourage those in diaspora to make Yoruba language their first-choice language where ever they are.

The foundation in the same vein, called on need by all South-West States House of Assembly, State Executive Council and other stakeholders in government to encourage use of Yoruba language in their deliberations

Penpushing also reports that Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo in his remarks appealed to parents and guardians to inculcate Yoruba speaking in their children and wards

The royal father emphasized that culture is the way of life, hence, the important need to encourage and appreciate usage of Yoruba language at every forum and stop embracing foreign language and culture.

Penpushing reports that Dr Soji Fajenyo  Department of Yoruba, Federal College of Education(FCE),Abeokuta was the guest lecturer at the ceremony, pointing out that Yoruba nation has produced valuable individuals who are all doing well in various fields

The guest lecturer cited Prof Wole Soyinka, (Nobel Laurate) Chief Olusegun Obasanjo (former President) Adetokunbo Ademola (First Chief Judge) and Chief Obafemi Awolowo among others who he described as pride of Yoruba

Penpushing further reports that he, however, frowned at some parents who are in the habit of not encouraging their children to speak Yoruba language, just as he appealed to Nigerian government in making Yoruba language a compulsory subject in schools.
