An Egba Chief and socialite, Joseph Oderinde popularly called Shasha has been reported dead on Sunday, May 25, 2025 at the age of 83, as a statement said while alive, he stood out among his peers, admired by all who knew him or observed him from afar.

Penpushng reports that the demise of Oderinde was made known in a statement by ace broadcaster and Ijemo High Chief in Abeokuta, Chief Olalekan Shoyinka, popularly called Ayinla Egba.

The statement by Shoyinka said the demise of Oderinde known as Shasha in social circle leaves a significant void in the social and communal life of Abeokuta, stressing that he was a figure of stability and integrity — one whose memory will remain a guiding light.

‘It is with deep respect and heartfelt reflection that I pay tribute to a man whose name will forever echo in the social and cultural fabric of Abeokuta — Chief Joseph Oluwole Oderinde, affectionately known as “Shasha’, he wrote\

Penpushing further reports that he stated that the deceased was not only a well-known Egba elder statesman but also a vibrant promoter of community and social life in Abeokuta and environs.

‘He stood out among his peers, admired by all who knew him or observed him from afar. His presence was a constant reminder of grace, wisdom, and discipline in both public and private life’, the statement added.

‘A proud alumnus of Abeokuta Grammar School, Chief Oderinde carved out a niche for himself as a successful businessman and hotelier. He served as the sole distributor of Supreme Ice Cream (formerly Wall’s Ice Cream, under UAC Nigeria) in Abeokuta and its environs, during its formative years — a role he carried with distinction and responsibility’, Shoyinka said.

‘Though he ran a small, well-maintained outlet in Ijemo, it was operated with a deep sense of order and humility. Chief Oderinde was never one for lavish displays. He often counseled others — especially the younger generation — to live within their means, to seek contentment over extravagance, and to cherish the quiet joys of a modest life well lived’.

‘I had only a few personal encounters with him, but even those brief moments were impactful. His words left a lasting impression: that simplicity, prudence, and discipline bring a deeper, more enduring joy than fleeting luxuries ever could’, Shoyinka emphasised.

‘Chief Oderinde departed this life in the early hours of Sunday, May 25, 2025, at the age of 83. His passing leaves a significant void in the social and communal life of Abeokuta. He was a figure of stability and integrity — one whose memory will remain a guiding light’, the statement reads.

‘May the Almighty grant him eternal rest, and may his values continue to resonate through the lives he touched. Rest well, Chief “Shasha.” Abeokuta remembers you’, the broadcaster journalist stated.
