Women wing of blind association organizes conference to empower women with disabilities

The Nigeria Association of the Blind (NAB) Women’s wing of Ogun State Chapter on Wednesday kicked-off a two-day conference in commemoration of the 2025 International Women’s Day aimed to empower women with disabilities.

Penpushing reports that the conference with the theme, ‘Accelerate Action Towards the Health and Economic Rights of Women with Disabilities’ was held in Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital and expected to be rounded off on Thursday.

The other programmes include a keynote address: Accessible Health Care: Building the Gap for Women with Disabilities by Mrs  Atinuke Odukoya, as well Olori Aminat Matemilola speaking on the topic, “The Importance of Economic Empowerment for Women with Disabilities”

Penpushing further reports that Odukoya stressed that health is wealth and encouraged women with disabilities to be determined and pursue their goals, emphasizing that disability does not define one’s potential

The Olori in her own submission at the well-attended conference offered words of encouragement to women with disabilities, emphasizing that disability is not a barrier to achieving one’s goals.

Penpushing also reports that Matemilola who is the wife of Olowu of Owu Kingdom emphasized that empowerment is key to unlocking one’s potential, stressing that intentional and deliberate efforts are needed to promote inclusivity and understanding.

The wife of the monarch explained that teaching children about friendship and acceptance is crucial, stressing that with empowerment, individuals with disabilities can become whatever they want to be, promoting a message of hope, inclusivity, and self-determination.

Penpushing further reports the Terra Academy for the Arts [TAFTA] delivered the third keynote “Opportunities for Women with Disabilities in the Arts Industry, while there was also a skill acquisition workshop on petroleum jelly making

Meanwhile, in same vein, the conference equally featured debate competition with open forum and discussion session as well as games and unstructured networking session
