The daughter of late business mogul and winner of June 12, 1993 Presidential election, Chief Moshood Abiola, Rinsola Abiola on Sunday organized a Ramadan lecture and Iftar programme which had in attendance Islamic Scholars, political associates and various political groups.

Penpushing reports that the ceremony held in Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital was under the auspice of Rinsola Abiola Foundation, and also aimed to promote youth leadership and civic engagement in the country.

The foundation boss who is the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Citizenship and leadership, however, called on Nigerian youths to be more proactive in civic engagement.

Penpushing further reports that Abiola at the well-attended event reaffirmed Tinubu’s dedication to youth development, stressing that the administration is committed to create opportunities for young leaders in the country.

The late billionaire’s daughter expressed deep concern in the spiritual benefits of engaging in acts of worship and charity during Ramadan, reminding participants of the increased rewards for good deeds during the holy month.

Penpushing also reports that Abiola who disclosed that the foundation was established in 2019 as a social impact-driven non-profit organization, primarily for Ogun State, equally explained that it is a platform she used to support need of the people with focus on women and youths

“We have so far impacted hundreds of Ogun state indigenes and residents through business grants and scholarships, and while today’s engagement would be the first religion-themed program, it is taking place as part of efforts to foster community and develop our youth’, she explained

‘We settled on the idea of a lecture and iftar during the holy month of Ramadan, as it would provide an excellent opportunity not just to host young people, but also to explore Islamic perspectives on youth development and the broader topic of leadership’, she added

“This is because religion remains the ultimate guide for mankind; it is thus key that we strive to understand the divine requirements for conducting our affairs as leaders and as young people’, Abiola stated

Penpushing reports that on concerns about youth representation in national decision-making, she clarified that the youth committee was formed to represent diverse groups, and not just individuals.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President equally assured young Nigerians that grassroots consultations were being planned to ensure their voices are well captured, stressing that leadership is not just about titles.

‘Leadership is not just about titles or political positions; it is about service. Every young person here today has the capacity to influence their community positively. We must begin to see ourselves as problem-solvers and agents of change’, she stated

Penpushing further reports that Abiola in same vein, urged Muslim faithful to maximize the last ten days of Ramadan through intensified prayers, charity, and self-discipline.

The guest lecturer Sheikh Kalmadeen Balogun, who is Chief Imam Egba Gbagura while speaking on the topic “Islamic perspectives on youths’ development and leadership’, underscored the intersection of faith, leadership, and youth development.

Penpushing also reports that the Chief Imam who was represented by Imam Mudashiru Abdl Rasheed reinforced the importance of proactive engagement in national development efforts.

Meanwhile, some personalities at the ceremony include Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon Adijat Adeleye, Yemi Adelani,Organizing secretary of ruling All Progressives Congress (AC) and Alhaja Faidat Akintunde-Sarumi (Chairman Abeokuta North local government of All Progressives Congress) amongst others.
