The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ogun State Council on Tuesday endorsed Comrade Alhassan Yahya and Dr. Abimbola Oyetunde as candidates for Presidency and Deputy respectively, ahead of the forthcoming national delegates conference of the union scheduled to hold in Imo State.

Penpushing reports that the endorsement of the duo was publicly announced by the Chairman of the Ogun State Council of the union, Wale Olanrewaju, when Alhassan and his campaign team visited members of the union at Iwe-Iroyin Press Centre in Abeokuta.

The council chairman declared to the gathering that the Ogun State Council unanimously approved the candidacy of the duo having religiously monitored them and convinced about their qualities to lead the body of journalists

Penpushing further reports that the motion to endorse both Alhassan and Oyetunde was moved by Hakeem Adegbenro who is the correspondent of BluePrint Newspapers and the chapel treasurer, seconded by Funsho  Obasa of the Ministry of Information Chapel

The Chairman of the Ogun State Council emphasizing on the endorsement of the Alhhassan and his team assured him that all the delegates from the state will cast their votes towards the success of the team, he described as formidable

Penpushing also reports that Alhassan, earlier in his speech presented his manifesto, explaining that his administration would reintroduce insurance scheme (especially health insurance) and weigh in allowance for journalists

The Presidential Candidate pledged to restructure the International Institute of Journalism (IIJ), establish Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) online radio, develop the infrastructure at the secretariat, ensure capacity building for journalists, sustain press freedom, and work with other stakeholders to attract Nigerian government intervention fund for the media and reintroduce a bill for new salary structure (media enhancement bill).

Penpushing reports that he equally explained that he chose a female running mate because of belief that women should be given equal opportunities, adding that if elected his deputy would not be a spare tyre, but equal contributor in the running of the union alongside other stakeholders.
