Gunmen have attacked some soldiers during a shootout at the Headquarters of Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, where many people were feared killed, an incident said to have occurred at about 9pm.

Penpushing reports that a resident identified as Henry Chukwuma, said the gunmen on Tuesday attacked the soldiers at their camp within the council secretariat, stressing that the attackers were believed to be pro-Biafra gunmen.

The resident explained that the suspected pro-Biafra gunmen enraged about the alleged establishment of an Internally Displaced Persons Camp (IDP) and training centre for former Boko Haram terrorists in the area, stressing that the gunmen were saying that they don’t want any camp for repented Boko Haram terrorists in Igbo land.

Penpushing further reports that another resident who preferred anonymity in his own account said some people were killed during the attack, but could not give the exact figure, adding that some unknown persons had asked young men in the area to leave the community before the attack.

The resident stated that the community at about 9pm heard gunshots by gunmen at the army camp, and set some military vehicles on fire, adding that about two soldiers were among those killed in the attack, forcing many residents to flee the community for fear of reprisal by the army.

Penpushing also reports that as at the time of filing this report a video clip, apparently recorded by the attackers, has been circulating on Facebook, showing some gunmen attacking the local government secretariat amidst the sounds of gunshots.

‘They have run away; an assailant was heard saying this is Ehime Mbano Army camp. It was a local government (headquarters), but they turned it into an army camp. We want them to come out. This is our land. This Biafra land,”

Penpushing further reports that the clip showed some vehicles being set ablaze by the hoodlums, while as at the time of filing this report no group has claimed responsibility for the latest attack, and the army spokesperson Onyema Nwachukwu was yet to make any official statement on the development.

Meanwhile, in same vein, the spokesperson of the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Jonah Unuakhalu, could not be reach for comments or reaction over the attack as at the time of filing this report.
