The Governor of Taraba State Agbu Kefas has appointed 573 aides in addition to 134 political appointees earlier announced which now make it 707 in his ongoing first administration in the 33-year-old state

Penpushing reports that the Secretary to the State Government, Timothy Kataps, made this known in a statement on Tuesday, just as it added that batches three and four of the appointments are soon to come.

The Governor it was learnt as at the time of filing this report has not assigned responsibilities to the appointees, as sources added that they are expected to be fixed as heads and members of boards of parastatals, advisers, and special and community assistants, among other roles.

Penpushing further reports the sources explained that some of the appointees are not indigenes of the state, while some of the 16 local government areas have more than the others, and last year, the Governor appointed 22 commissioners and five special advisers to his cabinet, along with two media aides.

The Governor thereafter appointed 11 members to the board of the state investment promotion agency and six as members of the board of internal revenue, just as a top government official explained that vehicles will only be given to special advisers, senior special assistants and board chairmen

Penpushing also reports that in a few months on assumption, Kefas procured hundreds of vehicles which include JAC, Mikano, Toyota Hilux, Toyota Highlander and Prado SUVs and were distributed to his commissioners, media aides, special advisers, lawmakers and traditional rulers in the state.

The number of residents in the state have criticize the development arguing that the Governor has turned political appointments into a poverty alleviation programme for politicians to win their loyalty for the next election

‘How can a reasonable government engage in appointment galore when people struggle to survive? The governor is going around making promises without fulfilling them, and now he is playing politics with appointments. He should wake up and face the reality of governance’, a resident said.
