The Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday convicted controversial cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly called Bobrisky for abusing the Naira, but struck out the money laundering allegations (counts five and six) levelled against him.
Penpushing reports that Bobrisky in his allocutus, told the court that he was not aware of the law on abusing the naira, adding that he is a social media influencer with over five million followers and should be given another chance to use his platform to inform and educate his followers about spraying money.
The judge, Justice Abimbola Awogboro who convicted him after the review of the facts of the case declared that ignorance of the law was not an excuse, and thereafter reserves Bobyrisky’s judgment till April 9, 2024

Penpushing further reports that with the conviction, Bobrisky could either serve six months in prison, pay a fine of N50,000 or do both, as section 21 (1) of the CBN Act 2007 states that a person who tampers with a coin or note issued by the bank is guilty of an offence and shall on conviction be liable for imprisonment for a term not less than six months or to a fine not less that N50,000 or to both such fine and imprisonment.
The accused who refers to himself as “Mummy of Lagos” was earlier arraigned on four counts of naira abuse preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) which he pleaded guilty.
Penpushing also reports that the court, however, struck out money laundering allegations (counts five and six) levelled against Bobrisky, while before the charge was read to the defendant, the commission’s prosecution counsel, Suleiman Suleiman, prayed the court to strike out counts five and six (money laundering charges) and arraign him on counts one to four.
