A Non-Government Organisation(NGO) known as Think Tank of Nigeria (TTON) has launched an 85-page compendium of communiques to complement Nigeria’s government efforts towards good governance in the interest of the country and governed.

Penpushing reports that the group comprising professionals from various fields and well as technocrats converged on Lagos to unveil the compendium which also attracted participation of number of stakeholders across and outside the country.

The Convener of the group Engr Dideolu Falobi explained that the organization is a policy advocacy platform with 286 members of various professions, drawn from the geo-political zones of Nigeria, charged with discussing Nigerian politics, as well as analysing political candidates and policies.

Penpushing further reports that Falobi stated that the goal is to proffer solutions to policies and developmental challenges which the country might be faced with, through diverse contributions of expertise in different fields, which could be converted to veritable actions if adopted, to bring needed positive changes.

The convener who doubles as the Managing Director of Krestal Laurel, an Engineering company based in Lagos, in his speech, however, called on the Nigerian Government on the importance to focus on divestment for equity and reduce borrowing to execute capital projects.

Penpushing also reports that the group frowned at the nation’s high debt profile, declaring that it was high time the leadership rise up to the economic and other challenges facing the country, as well as need to consider asset sales- divestment; equity or outright sales to raise capital for government projects.

‘The government should consider asset sales- divestment; equity or outright sales to raise capital for government projects. These projects should be self-sustaining; that is, they should be revenue-generating projects and unemployment opportunity-creation ventures’, the body posited.

Penpushing reports that the group pointed out that government should avoid assessing loan for projects that are self-sustaining, arguing that to build a rail infrastructure should not attract loans adding that there are expertise in investing in rails

‘Projects that are self-sustaining should not be undertaken through loans; you want to build a rail infrastructure, you don’t have to go for loans, there are people who have expertise in investing in rails as equity,” he said.

Penpushing further reports that Falobi on the devaluation of the naira, emphasized that industrialisation would help increase the country’s foreign reserve, and therefore urged the government to put an eye on the informal sector in a bid to increase the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
