There was a mild drama at a wedding ceremony as bride’s father and cleric disagreed on who between the two had the power to declare the couple as husband and wife at Liberty Gospel Church, Calabar, Cross River State.

Penpushing reports that at the ceremony held on September 9,2023, the founder of the church, Apostle Helen Ukpabio who officiated the wedding, publicly asked the bride’s father if the groom had fulfilled all the traditional requirements before the church could go ahead to pronounce them as a couple.

The bride’s father in response declared that the duo Francis Mbosowo who was the groom and Kubiat, who was the bride are already husband and wife, but the Apostle faulted the position of the bride’s father and declared that they are not couple until the church pronounced such.

Penpushing further reports that the bride’s father insisted that they are husband and wife, and gazed at the cleric who was standing at the podium, a few metres away from where the groom, the bride and their families stood.

The bride’s father added that he had earlier pronounced the couple as husband and wife during the traditional marriage rites, which took place a few days before the church wedding, a development which caused loud laughter within the guests and congregants

Penpushing also reports that at the ceremony which was transmitted live through facebook, recorded some silence in the church, following the mild drama which ensued, as the bride’s father glanced at the would be couple, while the trio later spoke among themselves in low tones.

The Apostle became frustrated with the actions of the bride’s father and asked the groom’s family if they knew the bride, and if they were willing to accept her into their family, while the family responded in the affirmative.

Penpushing reports that the cleric thereafter continued with the wedding ceremony, including the groom unveiling the bride, the exchange of marital vows and rings, before finally declared the couple as husband and wife.

‘In the Mighty name of Jesus! Our father, a new home has begun,” she prayed for the couple. Our father, we declare that every other foundation that someone had laid on account of these people is hereby destroyed, and destroyed, and destroyed, and destroyed. We scattered, we uproot, we cast out, (and) we burn with fire in the name of Jesus!”, the cleric said
