The coupists in Gabon have announced General Brice Nguema, leader of Gabon’s Republican Guard, as the country transition leader following the sack of President Ali Bongo, said to have won a controversial election for a third term.

Penpushing reports that spokesperson for the Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions (CTRI) made this known adding that Nguema had been unanimously designated as President of the transition.

The President of the transition is believed to be related to the ousted president, who is one of the most influential figures in the country, who joined the military from a young age and trained at the Royal Military Academy of Meknes, in Morocco.

Penpushing further reports that Nguema whose father was also a military officer, was said to have served as the senior Bongo’s “aide-de-camp” or military assistant until Ali Bongo rose to power in October 2009 when he was sent to Morocco and Senegal for diplomatic missions

The military officer later returned to Gabon in 2018, and he took over as the head of the guard of the ousted President Ali Bongo, while his military skills were noticed by members of Gabon’s former President Omar Bongo’s Republican Guard.

Penpushing also reports that affirming the existence of the transition committee, Lieutenant Colonel, Ulrich Manfoumbi on a state television said the president of the transition insists on the need to maintain calm and serenity in the country.

The sacked President already been detained in his residence by the junta has in a video on the social networking platform X, cried out to his friends all over the world to make noise about his arrest by Gabonese soldiers.

Penpushing reports that the ousted President was sighted sitting in a room filled with books, saying he had been arrested with his family, adding that his son and wife were also put in separate places and did not know what is going on
