The coupists who forcefully took over power from President Mohammed Bazoum of Niger Republic on July 26, 2023 have declared that they would own to power for three years before handing over to a new democratically elected government.

Penpushing reports that leader of the junta leader General Abdourahamane Tchiani gave the hint after meeting with an Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) delegation on Saturday, adding that they(coupists) have no ambition to confiscate power

The Army General who led the coup which terminated the democratically elected government, in a televised broadcast on Saturday emphasized that the transition of power would not go beyond three years, but did not give details on the potential transition

Penpushing further reports that  Tchiani however, explained that the principles for the move would be decided within 30 days at a dialogue to be hosted by the ruling military council, and equally reiterated the junta’s readiness to dialogue, stating that neither the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland nor the people of Niger want war.

The coupists boss claimed that Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is getting ready to attack Niger Republic by setting up an occupying army in collaboration with a foreign army, a move he described as illegal and inhuman sanctions imposed by the regional bloc.

Penpushing also reports that the leader of the junta, however, posited that it should be made clear that if an attack were to be undertaken against them, it will not be the walk in the park some people seem to think.

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Defence Chiefs, it is recalled on Friday disclosed that they had finalised plans to intervene in Niger Republic if all diplomatic options failed militarily.
