A Non-Governmental Organisation, Gendi has feted thirteen communities in Ogun State as part of the organization’s social responsibilities, which was designed to commemorate the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Penpushing reports that the beneficiary communities during the outreach include:  Soremekun, Afemo, Abule Officer, Fadama, Ibudo Ayetoro, Ido, Araromi, Jakola, Sotan, Orita Osi, Funaab Plantation, and Abule Baba Segun.

The Gendi team was led by Miss Ifeoluwa Omoraka who is the programme officer, accompanied by Mr.  Abayomi Soyinka (Finance officer), Miss Hamdalat Zubair (Monitoring and evaluation officer) Mr Nurudeen Dosunmu  (Assistant Monitoring and Evaluation Officer) Dr. Bosun Soetan (Planning Committee) Mrs.  Afusat Junaid (GENDI volunteers) Mrs. Anuoluwapo Odeyemi (GENDI volunteer) and Mrs. Tope Ogunniyi (GENDI volunteer)

Penpushing further reports that Gendi Executive Director, Prof Olubunmi Ashimolowo and Mrs. Biola Adekunle(Sponsor) who joined the programme through online contact in their goodwill messages  thanked the villagers for allowing the organization to use their communities for the outreach, and equally advised the villagers to shun any act of violence.

The monitoring and evaluation officer of GENDI, educated the villagers about gender-based violence and adolescent’s sexual reproductive health, explaining to them that gender-based violence is real, and should be cautious.

Penpushing also reports that she equally advised couples to always try their best in every possible way to shun violence in their marriages; whether it is the husband’s faults or wife’s fault, reiterating the fact that anyone found guilty will be penalised.

The officer  explained acceptable modes of reporting, which could be – reporting to  their traditional leader or community leader and that they can also go to the nearest police station or report, and as well  to GENDI via calls or using any of its  social media platforms.

Penpushing reports that, she, in the same vein spoke about sexual reproductive health and ways to prevent unwanted pregnancies, which include the use of contraceptives among which is condom, and family planning method.

The monitoring and evaluation officer, however, warned that that anybody who wants to use any of these means should make sure that they go to the right vendors and not quacks or contact GENDI, as well as on many others related issues to sexual reproductive health.

Penpushing further reports that other items distributed to the villagers include rice, tomatoes, variety of consumable drinks, while the children were not left out with donation of  biscuits and  books in accordance with their classes.

The community representatives in attendance were: Mr. Suaraq Makinde (Ido), Mr. Rasidi Sokunbi (Ido), Mrs. Duada Abidemi (Baale Ayetoro), Mr. Ishola Egbetokun (Baale Soremekun), Mr. Ajare Somekun, Mr. Tajudeen Bamgbose (Ibudo Ayetoro), Mrs. Ajoke Sakari (Soremekun), Chief Muhammodu (Baba Officer),  and Mr. Egbedare Jimoh.

Meanwhile, each community head (Baales) could not hold back their joy, as they expressed appreciation to the sponsor and organizer for choosing their communities for the outreach and also look forward to more of this kind of event in the nearest future.
