2022 Sports Festival: Governor Abiodun rewards athletes with cash gift

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has announced cash gifts to athletes who represented the State at the just concluded National Sports Festival, Delta 2022, having won 70 medals, comprising of 15 gold, 18 silver and 37 bronze medals.

Penpushing reports that, Abiodun made this known during a reception in honour of the athletes, held at Oba’s complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta assuring that those who did not win a medal at the festival will also be rewarded.

The Governor who commended the athletes for making the state proud at the festival, noted that his administration would also reward the coaches who were responsible for their successes at the event, adding that they have all done the state proud.

“I am impressed with your performances at the event. You have done us proud, but I am sure that you will do better when Ogun hosts the festival in 2024. I am supporting and encouraging all our gold medalists with a sum of N1, 000,000 each, all our 18-silver medalists will get N500, 000 each, and our 37 bronze medalists will get N250, 000 each”, he said.

Penpushing also reports that, he promised to give N100, 000 each to encourage those that did not win any medal, noting that the athletes had demonstrated love, passion, commitment and high level of responsibility in all the games they participated in, and assured them that the next sports festival in 2024 would be a reference sports festival for many years to come.

The Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Dr. Oluwadare Kehinde in his remarks while acknowledging the support of the Governor towards the development of sports in the state, noted that the commitment of the present administration to sports development earned the state the right to host the 22nd edition of the National Sports Festival in 2024.

Penpushing reports that, the duo of Kemi Oyebola, Sunkanmi Adewale who spoke on behalf of other medalists, appreciated the Governor for the gifts and provision of resources in the course of the event.
