The Olori of Akinale of Owu kingdom, Olori Olanike Ogunleye on Friday led wives and daughters of the kingdom in a meeting to deliberate on their work plan to empower the Owu women towards a sustainable socio-economic development in their clime.

Penpushing reports that, the quarterly meeting of the ‘Obirin Owu’ hosted by the Olori was held at the palace of Towulade of Akinale, Oba Olufemi Ogunleye, where several self-actualisation projects like soap making, fabric design, destoning Ofada rice and other subsistent trades, were  being freely taught for the benefits of the womenfolk.

The traditional ruler of the ancient town, while addressing the women admonished them  to emulate the Owu heroines like Efunsetan Aniwura in Ibadan and Efunroye Tinubu  in Abeokuta who fought for freedom and emancipation of their womenfolk and the Yoruba nation.

Penpushing further reports that, the veteran journalist turned royal father, noted that, there was no better time than now, for Owu women to rally round the new Olowu of Owu in Egbaland, Oba Saka Matemilola to reinvent and sustain the culture and heritage of Owu people

“No better time than now, when Owu women should rally round the new Olowu in Abeokuta, Oba Professor Saka Adelola Matemilola, to reinvent and sustain the culture and heritage of Owu people as a driving force for social economic development of Owu kingdom”, he emphasized

Penpushing also reports that Ogunleye charged them as mothers to watch over their wards and protect them against the current trend of child abuse and human trafficking in the society, adding that all hands must be on deck to nip the crime in the bud, with mothers making themselves to be well educated on the modus operandi of the traffickers and what motivates the crime.

The President of the women, Faderera of Owu Kingdom, Chief (Mrs) Jolaoluwa Opaleye while speaking at the well-attended meeting commended her colleagues (Obinrin Owu) for their dedication to improve the life of the society.
