The Resident Electoral Commission (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Oyo State, Barrister Mutiu Agboke has bowed out from the commission after a successful tenure of five years.

Penpushing reports that the commission held a valedictory at the headquarters on Tuesday in Ibadan, with a media briefing,  and while speaking said he had contributed meaningfully for electoral process, and happy leaving office, having being fulfilled serving meritoriously

The  record has it that the  Resident Electoral Commissioner started his five years tenure with Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) in Ondo State in 2017 and was  later redeployed to Oyo State in 2018

.

Penpushing further reports that, Agboke while speaking with journalists pointed out that the commission in about five years of his administration has given electorates in the state value for their votes by ensuring that their vote counted at various elections in the state.

The former commission boss said though people of the state initially doubted the commission’s sincerity in making their votes count, but boasted that Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) credibility was enhanced in all ramification.

Penpushing also  reports that Agboke lamented that vote buying remained a major concern of the commission in preparation towards the 2023 general election in the state, explaining that the commission was, however,  working with anti-corruption and security agencies in apprehending perpetrators of the act which has caused assault on Nigeria’s democracy.

The former Resident Electoral Commissioner maintained that the commission is working with the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) to ensured prosecution of any person arrested for the act.

Penpushing reports that he appealed to security agencies and political class to continue to join hands with the commission in tackling the menace in the society, and equally urged  residents of the state to collect their Permanent Voters Card (PVC).

The immediate past electoral commission boss emphasized that, Permanent Voters Card(PVC) is key to the participation  in the FORTH coming election, adding that the current voting system is such that without Permanent Voters Card(PVC), no electorates shall be allowed to vote under any condition.
