The National leader and Presidential aspirant of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Tinubu on Monday diplomatically disowned Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as his political son.
Penpushing reports that, Tinubu was responding to journalists question shortly after a meeting with twelve All Progressives Congress (APC) Governors at the Kebbi State Governor’s Lodge, Abuja, when he was told that one of his son had declared interest to run presidential race in 2023.
The national leader of the party in a sharp and swift response declared that he has no grown up son to make such declaration, apparently referring to Osinbajo, who is believe in many quarters as his political godson, but now eyeing the presidency.
“I don’t have any son grown up enough to make such declaration. The fact that we have people in our party that express desire to lead the party into the highest office in the electoral contest shows how much this our party has resonated with Nigerians and our party members”, he emphasised
Penpushing further reports that, it is widely held that Tinubu as national leader of the All Progressives Congress(APC) played a major role in Osinbajo’s emergence as running mate of President Muhammadu Buhari’s in 2015
The believe, was, however, faulted in some quarters which claimed that, Tinubu was earlier interested becoming the Vice President, a move said to be thwarted because of the muslim-muslim ticket palava, hence, some other chieftains of the party were said to have nominated Osinbajo
Penpushing also reports that, Osinbajo had served as Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice under the administration of Tinubu while serving as the Governor in the state.
The former Lagos State Governor at the meeting held hours after Osinbajo declared his intention to also run for president, explaining that the purpose of meeting was merely to seek collaboration, support and encouragement concerning his presidential bid.
“My mission here is to seek collaboration, support, and encouragement of my party, the APC, for my ambition to become the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as a replacement for President Muhammadu Buhari after his tenure,” he said.
Penpushing reports that, some of the Governors at the meeting include Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi State, Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, Bababjide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano, Gboyega Oyetola of Osun, Mala of Yobe, Simon Lalong of Plateau, Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa.
The Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF), Abubakar Bagudu speaking at the meeting explained that Tinubu informed them of his plan to run for president, which includes his reasons, thinking and message.
“He briefed us on his reasons, thinking, and message. The governors graciously listened to him to digest everything he said. He acknowledged the role of the governors in the last convention of the party by helping in the evolution of the leadership that is acceptable and widely acknowledged by all party members.”
