The Pensioners in the South-West of Nigeria have declared to work against political aspirations of any Governor owing them pension and gratuity in the zone in the forthcoming general elections.

Penpushing reports that, the aged under the banner of Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) made the declaration on Thursday while addressing journalists adding that it is on records that the Governors are owing them trillions of naira.

The Public Relations Officer of the union in the zone, Comrade Olusegun Abatan after the quarterly meeting lamented that pensioners in the South-West are being maltreated by the Governors

Penpushing further reports that, he emphasized that, in view of this, their retaliatory weapons, which is votes will be use against those Governors, and would  prefer to vote for candidates who will be committed to their welfare.

“Salaries of workers were increased in 2010 , many of the State Governors throughout the federation did not increase pension except Lagos and Ondo state. Salaries also increased in 2019, over three years now, no South-West Governors has implemented the adjustment for pensioners to benefit,” he said.

Penpushing also reports that, the bitter pensioners, however,  called on South-West State Governments, on what they said  an urgent matter  hold consultation with them and do the needful.

The spokesman of the body who doubles as Secretary of the Oyo State Chapter pointed out that if government is committed to tackle corruption in the civil service, it was important to take care of pensioners.

Penpushing reports that, Abatan explained that salaries and emoluments of public of holders should be reduced, noting that the country’s presidential system of government should be restructured.
