Ogun state government embraces information communication technology for traffic management

The Ogun State Government has pledged to ensure safety of road users, through effective Information Communication Technology, that will further boost the capacity of Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) officers in tandem with the universal best practices.

Penpushing reports that Governor Dapo Abiodun stated this at the 6th Annual Corps Commanders’ Conference, of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) a paramilitary outfit of the State Government, held in Abeokuta.

The Governor represented by his Chief of Staff, Alhaji Salisu Shuaib, expressed support for the Information Communication Technology (ICT) driven initiative. pointing out that  the theme of the Conference: “Panacea for our Traffic Woes: Improving Road Safety through Technology Driven Road and Traffic Management” was apt.

Penpushing further reports that, Abiodun pledged to provide Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE)  with logistic which would ensure that the Corps continues to maintain its pride of place in road traffic management.

The Governor charged motorists and other road users to cooperate with the agency by adhering to traffic rules and regulations, adding that it was important to always obey speed limit and traffic light, especially during the ember months, which is characterised with heavy flow of movement.

“As the officers of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), carry out their duties to ensure our safety, it is expected that we show our commitment and appreciation of their efforts by not violating the traffic rules and regulations. Most importantly, it is expedient to tell our people to drive carefully, and take necessary precautions, particularly in the course of this ember period”, Abiodun said.

Penpushing also reports that, Ogun State Head of Service, Dr Nafiu Aigoro while speaking commended Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE)   officers for their relentless service and diligence, saying that their efforts in the State Traffic Corridor was invaluable.

The number one civil servant in the state pointed out that transportation is a key component of economic advancement, hence safety of lives and property on the roads could not be overemphasised.

Penpushing reports that, Commander and Chief Executive Officer of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Commander Olaseni Ogunyemi earlier in his address said it was imperative to build the capacity of agency officers, to enable them discharge their duties effectively.

“TRACE Corps operatives, particularly middle level officers, who are next in succession, have been exposed to diverse levels of training and re-training geared towards professionalism, in order to enhance their capacity and capability in this digitised age. It is important that our men possess the ICT knowledge “, he said

.

Penpushing further reports that, Ogunyemi added that the annual colloquium has become a veritable platform to generate ideas, thoughts, as well as fashion out ways and manners on how best to resolve the perennial road traffic challenges and its attendant consequences.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Gbenga Dairo in his submission noted that the Conference has the impetus to improve the human development capacity of the Corps, adding that the theme was inconsonance with the aspiration of the present administration.

 Penpushing also reports that, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishment and Training (ESTAB), Mrs. Lydia Fajohunbo while speaking emphasised the need for Ministries, Departments and Agencies to include training in their budget, as it remains a veritable tool of improved productivity.

The stakeholders present at the event were officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS), So Safe Corp, Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC), Nigerian Navy, Amotekun Corps and Media Managers

Penpushing reports that, media mangers at the conference include: Toyin Sogbesan(General Manger, Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation), Mrs Funmi Wakama(General Manger Nigerian Television Authority, Abeokuta) and Prince Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji(Founder Penpushing Media) among others.
