A Publisher of Exposure magazine Olalekan Olakitan has petitioned the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Zone 2 Police Command, over alleged unlawful arrest and threat to his life by a police constable identified as Gbotemi attached to Ifo police station in Ogun State.

Penpushing reports that, counsel to the petitioner, Benjamin Ogunmodede said the policeman was acting under the instruction of Wasiu Opawole, said to be a business partner of the publisher, following a breakdown of contract agreement between the duo.

The solicitor said, his client (Olakitan) who is a member of the Bible Society, had his Lexus 300 Jeep with registration number LND 33 DA seized by the duo of Opawale and the constable, falsely claiming that the order was from the Assistant Inspector General of Police.

Penpushing further reports that, the solicitor said his client engaged Opawale in a POP contract on a building project at Iyana Ilogbo,Ota area, in Ado-Odo/Ota local government area of the state to the tune of N2million.

The counsel added in the letter that, his client made payment of N1, 670,000 with agreement that the balance to be paid on completion of the job, adding that Opawole at the end of the day handed over a shoddy job, which became an issue

“Our client gave a POP contact job to Mr Wasiu Opawole who was introduced to our client by one Femi to do the POP job for a building project at Iyana Ilogbo, Ota area, Ogun State. After conclusion of negotiation, Wasiu Opawole agreed to collect N2,000,000 for the whole job’.

“Our client paid a down payment of N1, 000,000 immediately. Eventually, Opawole Wasiu did a shoddy and unsatisfactory job after he had collected a total amount of N1, 670,000 up till date, leaving a balance sum of just N330, 000. Contractually, there was argument on the uncompleted job and he has not been paid the balance”, the petition reads

Penpushing also reports that, Wasiu Opawole instead of fulfilling his own part of the contract in producing good job, took law into his hand, and  in company of some suspected  thugs armed with machetes descended on Olakitan at Pokoto area of Ifo where he was physically assaulted, and threatened to kill him.

“For almost 4 hours, our client was under their threats and intimidation, until 2 men in mufti who later turned out to be policemen arrest our client, took him to Ifo Police Station around 7:00pm on 15th November, 2021 at the behest of Wasiu Opawole’.

“Our client told us that PC Gbotemi was apparently drunk while blackmailing him and wanted to seize our client phone as a collateral for the N330,000 which our client told him it is a civil case’, Ogunmodede wrote.

“It is a contract as he had not committed any offence known to law. They then moved to the DPO office where he was further interrogated and was released on bail at around 10:00pm”, the petition emphasised

Penpushing reports that, the petition added that, Olakitan  on getting to where his car was parked in police station premises, the hoodlums had vandalized his car, made way with his handbag, recording midget, some vital documents and the sun of N54,000 enclosed in the car save.

The lawyer, however, called on the Assistant Inspector General of Police(AIG) to intervene on the matter, and order the release car of his client  unconditionally, while seeking that justice be served.
