A Nigerian popular socialite who ruled the social scene in the 60’s and 70’s, Chief Laide Oropo has died Sunday evening at a private office located in Ogba Soye road along Abeokuta road , Ijebu-Ode at the age of 80 years .
Penpushing reports that, the late businessman, who was the toast of musicians in the country and beyond was in the class of Babs Animashaun, Bisi Ajala and Bode Osinusi among others who ruled the entertainment world with class.
The renowned Oropo known in the social circle, was reported to have been sick for awhile, before death came calling, and as at the time of filing this report, his children said to be resident abroad have been contacted.
Penpushing reports that two of the deceased workers identified as Iya Ola and Deji Olukosi when contacted confirmed the development, adding that the late socialite was to celebrated his 80th on November 6 before the incident.
The staffers said arrangements for the burial were ongoing by the family as at the time of filing this report, adding that he would be buried on Monday at his private residence sitated at Makatewo along Oke-Owa in Ijebu Ode
Penpushing also reports that, it is recalled that, one of the popular songs which brought Oropo to limelight was titled ‘Board Members”, which was released by popular Juju musician, Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi
The former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel during his tenure also appointed Laide Oropo as the Chairman of the Ogun State Sports Council, a position he held for sometime before end of Daniel’s tenure
