Drunk driver arrested while conveying pupils to school

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC)  Ogun State  Command has  arrested a drunk driver of a school bus, Olajide Johnson while conveying pupils to school in Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital.

Penpushing reports that, Johnson who was driving the school bus with registration number SMK 488 ES (a green 14 seaters Toyota Hiece bus) with the inscription “School Bus” was apprehended on Monday around Kuto bridge in the town.

The Route Commander, Florence Okpe who confirmed in a statement said driver was subjected to alcohol test through the use of breathalyzer which indicated that he  had high level of alcohol intake which is far higher than the maximum limit of alcohol intake level which confirmed that he was drunk.

‘The School Bus Driver one Olajide Johnson was apprehended on Kuto bridge Abeokuta for driving under the influence of alcohol while conveying pupils to School. The vehicle was immediately impounded by FRSC operatives and the driver was subjected to alcohol test through the use of breathalyzer which indicated that the driver had high level of alcohol intake which is far higher than the maximum limit of alcohol intake level which confirmed that he was drunk’

.’Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the driver doesn’t possess a valid driver’s license. It was also reported that the drunk driver assaulted one of the FRSC operatives while discharging his duty’.

Penpushing further reports that, Okpe added in the  statement that  the driver was later charged to court for driving under the influence of alcohol, driver’s licence violation and assaulting marshal on duty

The statement added that, the  Sector Commander  Ahmed Umar reiterated on drunk driving and other traffic related offenses as it poses threat to other road users, and urged fleet operators (especially schools), to keep proper monitoring on the drivers before and after their recruitment.

Penpushing also reports that, Umar added that the Federal Road Safety Corps( FRSC) is continually committed to creating a safer motoring environment, and equally advised motorists to obey traffic rules and regulations.
