Daughters keep mother’s decomposed corpse inside house for 9 days, says God tells them to keep it secret

The was a shocking drama in a home in Benin City, Edo State Capital following discovery of concealed corpse of a 78 year-old woman, by her two daughters who claimed that they got divine message that the death should not be made public.

Penpushing reports that, the late woman’s daughters, Grace Osagede, 60, and her younger sister, Theresa Suberu, 58, allegedly kept the corpse for nine days, a development which resulted in offensive odour within the vicinity.

The offensive odour attracted neighbours, leading to a search in the home, and to the amazement of other residents, decomposing bloated corpse of the woman identified as Agbenese Oshoma was discovered

Penpushing further reports that, the two sisters knew about their mother’s death but kept the news to themselves, claiming that they were instructed by God not to disclose their mother’s death to anybody

The two women when earlier confronted by neighbours about the offensive odour from the apartment and what could cause it, dismissed the enquiry, but when the older was confronted about the discovery she insisted that, she had instruction from God not to disclose their mother’s death to anybody.

Penpushing also reports that, the landlord of the building as at the time of filing this report, said report had been made to the police, adding that arrangement was in place to evacuate the corpse

The Edo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Kontongs Bello said the two sisters were not arrested because there was no reasonable ground to arrest them, adding that the police have evacuated the corpse

“The police evacuated the corpse. The sisters were not arrested because there was no reasonable ground to arrest them.Every family has the right to their culture and since there is no evidence to show that they compromised the law, there is no reason to arrest them’Bello said.
