Only unity can address insecurity in Yorubaland – Gani Adams

The Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams has disclosed that it will be difficult for Yorubaland to overcome its current security challenges if its sons and daughters fails to speak with one voice to address it.

Penpushing reports that Adams made this known at the Pan Yoruba Congress Committee on Discussion on Security and Economy of Oodualand, lamenting that some Yoruba leaders are sabotaging unity of the land.

The National Coordinator of Odua Peoples  Congress(OPC) emphasised  that all hands must be on deck to fight for the struggle to liberate Yorubaland out of the ongoing insecurity and economic hardship.

Penpushing further reports that, Adams assured that he has agreed to work in unity with leaders of all socio cultural groups in Yorubaland to ensure security of lives and property, as he also pointed out that security of Yorubaland start from traditional rulers and the people

The Aare Ona-Kakanfo, however called on all southwest governors to lay more emphasis on agriculture, adding that food security is paramount in the society, saying that insecurity will reduced and youth will be gainfully employed if government can give more encourage to agriculture

Penpushing also reports that in his welcome address, the Congress Committee Chairman, Mr. Sola Lawal noted that the purpose of the congress was to scrutinized, interrogate and proffer the way to good response to all the challenges facing ng Yoruba nation.

The Committee Chairman stated that, by doing this, Yorubaland will regained its lost unity, and  pointed out that Yoruba nation has of recent witnessed disruption of peace which include kidnappings for ransom, maiming, raping of women, and destruction of economy facilities especially on farms across Yoruba nation.

Penpushing reports that in his remark, the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde said that the gathering become important considering the spate of insecurity in the state and southwest as a whole.

The Governor noted that politicians eyeing for different post should forget about 2023 election for now, saying that security of Yorubaland should be their priority so that Yoruba sons and daughters can sleep with their two eyes.

Penpushing further reports that, Makinde noted that security is a collective efforts of all which should not be left alone to the hands of government, calling on traditional rulers across southwest and none state actors to wake up to the task and fight the struggle to win

The Governor, however, pledged his support towards the struggle, saying that he will always takes decision in the best interest of the people in  the state and Yorubaland as a whole.

“We shouldn’t shed blood of innocent citizens on the struggle, let’s do the struggle with wisdom, we shall brings together none state actors in the security architecture of the state, so that people can sleep with their two eyes.”

Penpushing further reports that the gathering however said that in view of all these security challenges, they have decided to unveiled Southwest Security Stakeholders Group under the leadership of Gani Adams.

“Our forest are sacred, untouchable and no going area for terrorists, Yoruba will not cede one inch of our forest to anyone under any guise, the present security situation in the country calls for the unity if our people across the world”.

“We are in support of the adoption of Yoruba national anthem by Osun and Ondo states while recommending the same for the remaining southwest states, agriculture should no longer be as part of vocation but an important engagement and it should be taken serious by our governors”.

“Nigeria as a nation traces her step back to true and functional federalism as the panacea to the nation’s problem, Oodua Investment should be revamped by southwest governors”, the meeting posited.

Penpushing reports that a communiqués issued at the end of the Congress reads that Yoruba nation is surprised with the level of a insecurity in the land, adding that the region is living in daily incessant insecurity.

‘Yoruba Nation is worried by the unfolding anarchy as its affects southwest region by the daily occurrence of kidnappings, arson, maiming, destruction of economic facilities and killing.That act of criminality that has been tagged farmers/holders clash is a case of terrorism which is crime against humanity’ ,the communiqué reads
