The remains of Veteran Nigerian Juju and Highlife musician Iyun Janet Ajilore, popularly known as Saint Janet, were on Wednesday laid to rest in Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital weeks after her sudden death.
Penpushing reports that the renowned female musician was buried at her residence following funeral activities attended by her children, relatives, colleagues and admirers, a service which recorded emotional scenes.
The video from the burial showed veteran Juju singer Gentleman Dele Taiwo, alongside other members of the traditional music community, who joined the family to gathered round and mourned the late musician
Penpushing further reports that the burial followed a series of funeral activities that began on Tuesday with a candlelight service, Christian wake and Artists’ Night at the AIT/Faaji FM compound in Kola Alagbado, Lagos.
The deceased fondly called “Mama Yabis,” carved a unique niche for herself in Nigeria’s Juju and Highlife music scene through a style that blended music, humour, satire and provocative social commentary.
Penpushing also reports that her energetic performances and unconventional approach made her a distinctive figure in the traditional music industry, where controversy often accompanied her public persona.
