Female Governorship candidates contesting in 17 states in Nigeria at the forthcoming 2023 general elections have promised to provide solutions to issues around infrastructure, security, education, and agriculture.

Penpushing reports that the candidate on the platforms of different political parties in Benue, Delta, Abia, Lagos, Kwara, Kano, Borno, Jigawa, Akwa Ibom, Zamfara, Rivers Oyo, Nasarawa, Enugu, Ebonyi, Cross River, and Niger states made this known on Monday at a media parley

The media parley was organised by the United Nations (UN) Women in collaboration with the Government of Canada and Women Radio for the 25 female gubernatorial candidates and a female Presidential candidate ahead of the 2023 elections.

Penpushing further reports that the Governorship election is scheduled to take place on March 11, 2023 in 28 out of 36 states, while the time table released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) showed that Presidential election will hold 25 February

The Governorship Candidate of Social Democratic Candidate (SDP) for Abia State, Ngozika Ogbuneke, while speaking pledged that she will focus on digitalizing the education system in her state, and in her own submission the candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), in Benue State, Roseline Chenge, gave assurance that she will improve security in the North-central state by engaging with various personnel

Penpushing also reports that, Chenge pointed out that men have contributed their part to the growth of the economy in the state, stressing that on her part as Governor, storage facilities will be provided to reduce food waste and promote food production in the state, but the Action Alliance (AA) candidate in Jigawa State, Binta Umar, lamented that getting the attention of her people remains a bottleneck in the campaign.

The United Nations (UN), it is recalled in November said only 10.1 per cent of the candidates contesting in the 2023 elections are female, while currently, 4.1 per cent of Nigerian women are active in the parliament.

Penpushing reports that, the world body described it as something unacceptable, and comparing it to other African countries like Rwanda and Senegal, said the representation of women in politics in the Nigeria is very low.

Meanwhile, the presidential candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), Ebitie Ndok- Jegede, in her contributions said her focus as president if elected, will be to address the issues of insecurity and education.
