One Hundred and Four mediators have been trained on online dispute resolution, a training jointly organized by the German Agency for International Development (GIZ), Ogun State Government in collaboration with the Mediation Training Institute (MTI), to enhance commercial dispute resolution in the State.

Penpushing reports that, the 3-day training took place at the Judicial complex located along Abeokuta-Kobape dual carriage way, Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital, with participants drawn from the different judicial branches of the state.

The Ogun State Chief Judge, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu in her welcome address, commended   the conveners of the training, expressing optimism  that, the outcome of the training will ease the work load on judges in the state, noting that in view of this, many conflicts can be settled out of the conventional courts.

Penpushing further reports that, Dipeolu, however, encouraged participants on need to engage fully in the training, pointing out that being part of dispute resolution is most gratifying than judgments obtained at the courts.

“This training on conflict resolution will definitely outlive your work as judicial workers. It is most gratifying that conflicts are resolved even before they get to the courts”, the chief judge stated

Penpushing further reports that, coordinator of German Agency for International Development (GIZ), in Ogun State, Steven Dada in his remarks, explained that, the collaboration became necessary in view of the fact that,  Ogun state government has in place a multi door court room, which is an indication that the state appreciate the issue of alternate dispute resolution.

“This training started some few years back, where we also gave Ogun state judicial workers training on alternate conflicts resolution. This is because of the fact that Ogun state judiciary already has a multi door court room in place. The multi door court room is a testament that the state  appreciate the issue of alternate dispute resolution”, he said.

Penpushing also reports that, a participant, Barrister Habeeb Ajayi in an interview, commended the initiators of the training, noting that, mediation is key in as much as people are moving away from serious litigations

Penpushing reports that, Ajayi, who was a former member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, pointed out that there is appreciable level of dispute resolution among the people, adding that people are now moving away from serious litigation.

“Mediation is the key thing now. People are moving away from serious litigations, because they appreciate the fact that matters can be settled through mediation, as a kind of alternate dispute resolution”, he added

Penpushing further reports that, in his speech, Olusegun Ogunyannwo, who is the President, Mediation Training Institute, said the training is also aimed at easing the scope of doing business in the country, adding that justice is key to the business environment.

The traditional ruler of Akinale in Owu Kingdom of Egbaland, Oba Olufemi Ogunleye who is a lawyer and veteran journalist, while speaking as a participant, expressed satisfaction over the training, adding that, conflicts resolution in necessary in all phase of life

Meanwhile, while concluding the training, the Mediation Training Institute presented two brand new laptops, projector and screen to the multi door as support for the quick dispensation of justice in the state.
