The Association of Corporate Affairs Managers of Banks (ACAMB) on Friday converged on Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital for a 4-day national retreat with the theme, ’Bank Recapitalisation and Beyond: Amplifying Brand Resilience and Stakeholders Financial Inclusivity’

Penpushing reports that the retreat tagged Olumo 2025, attracted number of members of the association across the country, while other programmes designed for the event include inauguration of the newly constituted Board of Trustees (BOT) and gala night on Saturday among others

The President of the association Rasheed Bolarinwa at the opening ceremony explained that the retreat which was the first in over 20 years was convened to align banking communication professionals with regulators and academics at a crucial policy moment for the industry.

Penpushing further reports that Bolarinwa stressed that the banking sector remains central to national development, and that fact-based engagement is necessary to sustain public trust, disclosing that 44 banks are represented at the retreat.

The President noted that the programme will run for four days, after which a communiqué will be issued, adding that the theme reflects the association’s responsibility to not only amplify the recapitalisation message, but also drive conversations that promote innovation, inclusion and brand resilience in a rapidly changing digital financial ecosystem.

Penpushing also reports that Professor of Marketing at the Lagos Business School, Tayo Otubanjo, in his paper urged Nigerian banks to redefine their value proposition and develop brand identities that reflect African originality, as the sector moves into a fresh phase of recapitalisation.

The speaker stated that the recapitalisation exercise will intensify competition in the banking space, making it more important than ever for financial institutions to differentiate themselves and clearly spell out why customers should choose them.

Penpushing reports that he observed that most Nigerian banks still operate with foreign-styled brand identities, and called for branding that reflects Africa’s character, context and cultural values.

The Professor said the expected liquidity from recapitalisation should be directed toward supporting real businesses, MSMEs, traders and artisans who drive economic productivity  rather than repeating past patterns where capital becomes inactive and unproductive.

Penpushing further reports that Deputy Director, Market Conduct and Development Department of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Ibrahim Umar Hassan, in his remarks said recapitalisation remains critical in building a stronger and shock-resilient financial system capable of supporting Nigeria’s ambition of becoming a one-trillion-dollar economy by 2030.

The Deputy Director emphasized that Association of Corporate Affairs Managers of Banks (ACAMB), as reputation managers for the industry, must lead the correct narrative and curb misinformation surrounding the process.

Penpushing also reports that Hassan expressed confidence that banks will meet the 2026 recapitalisation deadline either individually or through mergers and strategic alignments similar to the consolidation that reshaped the industry in 2005.
