An Ogun state indigene, Edward Ademosu has faulted the claim of Governor Dapo Abiodun that the state has the highest number of yahoo boys in the country, adding that, the Governor’s statistics cannot stand scientific proofs.

Penpushing reports that, Ademosu declared that its intriguing to understand the basis for the Governor’s conclusion, arguing that the available statistics do not support the assumption, stressing that the Governor should have take time to Google and check out proper records

‘It’s intriguing to understand the basis for this conclusion. The available statistics do not support this assumption. Mere insinuations that the number of Tertiary Institutions in a State correlate with criminal rate is not empirical enough’, Ademosun said.

Penpushing further reports that, the Public Relations guru explained that a cursory check on Google showed that Ogun State is not on the top list of the yahoo boys, as claimed by the governor, but far behind some states in the country

‘A cursory check on Google indicates that Ogun State comes a distance 8th/9th on the list of 10 most ‘Yahoo-Yahoo’ dominated fraudsters in Nigeria. Ogun is far behind Lagos, Edo, Rivers, Imo Abuja, and others’, he emphasised.

Penpushing also reports that, Ademosu, a renowned media practitioner said his explanation was not meant to dismiss the prevalence of fraudulent activities in the state, but to put the record straight, and erase the notion that the state is in forefront of fraudsters

‘The point is not to dismiss the prevalence of ‘419’ fraudulent activities in the State but to dispel the wrong official notion that the State is “first among equals in fraudulent practices”. We should not be tagged wrongly, particularly by the number One Chief Executive and then accept without subjecting such to critical review’.

‘Ogun State is meant to be the ‘Gateway’ for everything positives, and facts have proved this in clear terms. Our leaders must be weary of negative statistics that can’t stand scientific proofs. The Governor simply goofed here, pls’, Ademosu stressed

Penpushing reports that, it is recalled that, the Governor while speaking on Friday at the launch of ‘OP-MESA’, a joint security outfit, admitted that the state parades highest number of internet fraudsters known as yahoo yahoo boys in the country, with declaration that government  is determined to stop the menace.

The Governor explained that the reasons behind the high rate of yahoo boys was the existence of high number of institutions in the state, but quickly added that in view of the ugly trend, his administration has concluded arrangements for the establishment of state commission on crimes to complement the roles of the Economic and Financial  Crimes Commission(EFCC)

Penpushing reports that, Abiodun assured that with the set up of the commission, the criminals will be smoked out, and had them handed over to the appropriate authorities for prosecution

‘Ogun state is capital of yahoo yahoo boys. They even did award night in Abeokuta, for best hacker. We can understand reason for this, it is because Ogun state has the highest number of institutions in the country’, Abiodun said.
