The staff of Ministry of Women Affairs on Friday admitted that the strike embarked upon was misguided and pledged renewed support for the Minister, who they called on to forgive them over the staged protest.

Penpushing reports that the workers led by Chairperson, Mrs. Anne Orjiobele and Comrade Success Alake made the confession during a town hall with the Minister, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT)

The workers along with other officials and representatives, therefore appealed to the Minister to continue working assiduously for the welfare of staff, emphasizing that the misunderstanding was not premeditated

Penpushing further reports that Sulaiman-Ibrahim in response, warmly embraced the workers’ apologies, stressing that she held no grudges and that unity was paramount for the progress of the ministry.

The Minister urged staff to look beyond internal differences and focus on the bigger mission of the Ministry as the conscience of the country, with the responsibility of championing the rights and welfare of women, children, families, and vulnerable groups

“We should all be human beings first before anything else. Unity is the only way forward. I have nothing against anyone, and I believe we can solve our challenges through dialogue and mutual respect’, she said

Penpushing also reports that she assured that staff welfare remained a priority under her leadership, while equally clarifying that certain administrative duties fall within the purview of the Permanent Secretary and Directors.

The Minister in same vein, responding to the concerns raised by the workers regarding welfare, housing, training, and inclusion assured to look into it, within the limits of available resources, and encouraged them to see themselves as collaborators rather than adversaries.

Penpushing reports that in a symbolic gesture of goodwill and encouragement, she announced the distribution of a 50kg bag of rice to each worker present at the hall—an announcement that was greeted with cheers and excitement.

The humility of the Minister and open-hearted forgiveness drew thunderous applause from the excited workforce, many of whom referred to her as a mother figure, and thereafter embarked singing, dancing, and openly celebrating what many described as a new beginning for peace and collaboration in the Ministry of Women Affairs.
