The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has commended the Child Protection Network (CPN) Nigeria for the numerous efforts towards creating a protective environment for children in the country.

The Chief of Child Protection, of United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) Mr. Ibrahim Sesay gave the commendation when the network led by its National Coordinator, Kunle Sanni paid an advocacy visit to the organization headquarters in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)

Penpushing further reports that, Sesay while welcoming the team, described the network as a novel idea which continues to help in fulfilling what child protection connotes by preventing bad events from happening to children and responding to children in difficult situation.

The host harped on the need to put in place community child protection structures that can prevent and aid quick response to abuse, exploitation affecting children, noting that the network has over the years exhibited its strong existence at the top level from National down to the state.

Penpushing also reports that, Sesay, however, advised that Child Protection Network (CPN) existence should be taken further to include community actors or agents who are closer to the families and their children.

The national coordinator in response during the visit, which was part of planned consultation with key stakeholders to strengthen the protection of children in Nigeria, disclosed that, the network exists at local government levels in some states and this would go round all the states in no distance time.

Penpushing reports that, Sanni thanked the world body Chief for the warm reception with a promise that his team will develop strategies and approaches that can be employed to successfully co-opt actors at ward and community levels into child protection.

The National Coordinator, was accompanied by  Beatrice Linus Dung (Deputy National Coordinator), Olorunfemi Olusegun (National Secretary), Risikat Yusuff (Assisr National Secretary), Victor Dorawa Koreyo (National Internal Auditor) and  Bukola Ogundipe, the acting coordinator for Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
