The traditional ruler of Akinale in Owu Kingdom of Egbaland, Oba Olufemi Ogunleye has frowned at the criminal activities of some youths in the community, and enjoined parents,as well as  guardians in his domain to keep watch on their wards

Penpushing reports that the royal father made this clear in reaction to recent report of attack on a food vendor in the community when the suspected thieves made away with the vendor’s proceeds.

The Towulade declared that he has asked the police to do the needful on the arrested thieves, stressing that he would not condone any level of crime in his domain, assuring that criminals would not be allowed to have breathing space

‘I enjoined parents and guardians to keep watch on their wards and teach them the ‘Omoluabi’ values inherent in the Yoruba culture. I have asked the police to do the needful on the arrested boys as I will not condone any level of crime in our community’, he said

Penpushing further reports that, the monarch while addressing the Akinale community on the occasion of the end of Ramadan festival regretted the breakdown of the Yoruba values of honesty, hard work, respect for elders and neighbourhood friendliness.

The royal father admonished parents and guardians for abandoning their responsibilities to allow their wards to engage in destructive vices against the norms of our culture, noting that it was disgraceful that some young boys in the environment were caught as accomplices of a petty thief who stole money and expensive telephone valued over N600,000.00 from a restaurant in the town.

“It is unacceptable for the palace for us to be working day and night on how we can raise the status of our community through means of socioe-conomic development to provide employment and welfare, only for a handful of untrained and uncultured elements in the environment to be turning the hands of the clock by indulging in crime’.

Penpushing also reports that, the journalist turned traditional ruler emphasised, ’this we will not allow and we shall deal with them in the appropriate and lawful ways without bothering on whose ox is gored’
