The traditional ruler of Akinale in Owu kingdom of Abeokuta, Oba Olufemi Ogunleye has cautioned pathfinders and followers of masquerades,as the town celebrate Egungun festival to exhibit discipline in the course of the celebrations.
Penpushing reports that the royal father gave the caution note while receiving the Akinale ancient masquerade at his palace before leaving for Abeokuta to join other Owu masqurades at Olowu’s palace for the activities
The Towulade Akinale, admonished the youth in Owu Kingdom to restrain from causing disquiet anywhere, explaining that the annual Egungun festival in Owu Kingdom is a spiritual rebirth for the people to reconnect with their ancestors who had cared for them while alive.
“Our departed ancestors, according to our culture, are incarnated into deified personalities, known as Egungun  through whom we are blessed with intercessionary prayers”, Ogunleye pointed out.
Penpushing also reports that he advised the youth and handlers of the masqurades to continue to protect the cultural values of  the forefathers so as to sustain the traditional heritage.
Meanwhile, the 2022 Egungun festival of the Owu people has begun in earnest with series of masqurades in colourful attires bedecked Olowu’s Palace in Abeokuta.
