The Chief Executive Officer of Women Radio WFM 91.7, Toun Okewale Sonaiya has pushed for affirmative procurement for Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) Policy Road map in Lagos State

Penpushing reports that Okewale-Sonaiya made the call at the launch of Lagos State Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE), adding that the policy road map has sparked a rallying cry for women to seize the opportunities presented by the policy.

The female veteran broadcast journalist emphasized that supporting women in business requires more than just policy statements, stressing that it demands affirmative implementation.

Penpushing further reports that the owner of first female radio station in Nigeria urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to utilise his executive powers to ensure women-owned businesses benefit directly from procurement processes.

The Chief Executive Officer pointed out that supporting women in business goes beyond training and access, emphasizing that it must also reflect affirmative procurement.

Penpushing also reports that Okewale- Sonaiya commended the Lagos State government for its inclusive initiatives but stressed the importance of compliance and proper documentation.

“Supporting women in business goes beyond training and access. It must also reflect affirmative procurement. Women must do the needful. Register your businesses, comply with tax regulations and keep documentation in order’, she said

The Lagos State Governor while addressing the audience responded to Okewale Sonaiya’s request, assured that his administration procurement policy will prioritise contracts for women-owned businesses, adding that this promise marks a significant step towards turning policy into action.

Penpushing reports that the Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) Policy Road is built on five strategic pillars: Agriculture, Entrepreneurship, Traditional Labour Market, Emerging Industries, and Education and Skills.

The policy aims to close gender gaps and promote inclusive growth, with cross-cutting enablers such as financial inclusion and gender-responsive governance, and with it in motion, the focus now shifts to implementation.

Penpushing further reports that Women across Lagos state are encouraged to step up, comply, and lead, while the promise of the Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) Policy is clear: a new era of economic empowerment for women in Lagos State.
