The Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu is considering creation of Livestock Ministry as part of efforts to improve meat and dairy production and reduce violence between migrant herders and farmers in the country

Penpushing reports this indication came to limelight on Tuesday during the inauguration of the Renewed Hope Livestock Reform Implementation Committee held at State House, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT)

“When you have a great opportunity as this, why should Nigeria continue in conflict with the calibre of the people that are here? This presents a unique opportunity also to delineate and establish a separate ministry called the Ministry of Livestock Development. We will develop the economy, give people the opportunity to excel. Our vet doctors can give us the necessary opportunity to rear, crossbreed and stop the wanton killings, even animal feeds is a huge economy’, he said

Penpushing further reports that Tinubu announced that he would chair the Renewed Hope Livestock Reform Implementation Committee while Prof Attahiru Jega, former National Chairman Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will be the co-chairperson.

The record, however, has it that thousands of people are killed annually in violence between migrant herders and local farming communities in many states in Nigeria, while some of the affected states include Plateau, Benue, Kaduna and Taraba.

Penpushing also reports that the records showed that previous governments’ efforts to end the violence have failed, however, the incumbent leadership expressed hope that his government would tackle the menace.
