The Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu on Monday conferred the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on all 24 members of the Super Falcons team that won the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Penpushing reports that Tinubu made the announcement during a reception for the team at the new banquet hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and equally gave each of the players $100,000 and a brand-new three-bedroom apartment.

The President who affirmed that he was proud of the team’s heroic display, hailed the Super Falcons for their resilience, unity, and the inspiration they have provided for millions of Nigerians.
Penpushing further reports that the team led by head coach Justin Madugu, overcame formidable challenges at the championship — battling through the group stage, eliminating Zambia and South Africa, and finally avenging their painful 2022 semi-final exit to Morocco in a dramatic final showdown in Rabat.
The recognition was part of a grand reception hosted, following superlative performance of the girls who staged a stunning comeback to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2 in the final, securing Nigeria’s record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title.
