The suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has been arrested and detained by the State Security Service (SSS), for investigative reasons and was said to have been driven to the Nigeria’s secret police headquarters in Asokoro District Abuja,

Penpushing reports that the spokesperson of the Department of State Services(DSS),Peter Afunanya confirmed this development, but did not give details of when and how the embattled and controversial former Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN)  Governor was arrested and where he is being kept.

“The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby confirms that Mr Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), is now in its custody for some investigative reasons’, Afunanya said

The source, however, disclosed that Emefiele was picked up from his home in Lagos State and then flown to Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) guarded by a detachment of operatives, where he was being quizzed.

Penpushing further reports that Emefiele, it is recalled  faced criticism due to his controversial foray into partisan politics, which saw him contest for the presidential ticket of the ruling All Progressive Congress(APC).

The suspended Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN), boss it is recalled, however, tried to deny his involvement in partisan politics, while support groups were calling for his emergence as flagbearer of the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC).

Penpushing also reports that on Friday night, there were speculations that the Department of Security (DSS) arrested Emefiele shortly after he was suspended, but the authorities denied on Saturday morning.

The Department of State Security(DSS), it is recalled had a turbulent relationship with Emeifele recently, when the agency accused him of a barrage of offences, and the agency requested a court order in December to arrest him on allegations of financing terrorism, fraudulent activities, and economic crimes of national security dimension.

Penpushing reports that the Federal High Court in Abuja, however, rejected the request on the ground that the State Security Service (SSS) failed to present sufficient evidence to justify issuing an arrest warrant against Emefiele.
