Suspected herders have invaded Nimbo, a community in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State, killing a yet-to-ascertained number of residents after shooting sporadically, but police said they would provide details later.
Penpushing reports that an indigene of the community, who identified herself as Oluchi, and confirmed the ugly incident said she saw the bodies of five people killed by the attackers, adding that a child of about two years old was among those killed.
The indigene who in her account said four others included one old woman and three men, stressing that the attacks by the suspected herders across communities in the council area have been frequent in recent times.
Penpushing further reports that the lady expressed regret that security agencies were often deployed in the area only when there was an attack, while another indigene, who preferred anonymity said the suspected herders invaded the community and opened fire on some residents who were mourning a deceased person in Ugwuijoro, a village in the Nimbo Community.
The indigene explained that several others sustained gunshot injuries during the attack and identified some of the deceased as include Simon Ugwu, Chukwuebuka Oruku, Julius Ogbonna Odiegwu and Gabriel Ezea.
Penpushing also reports that the Enugu State Police Command Public Relations Officer Daniel Ndukwe, when contacted confirmed the development said to have occurred on Sunday evening in the community, and promised that he would later provide details of the attack in a statement to journalists.
