A female nursing student, Wendy Achumba of the College of Nursing in Umuadara village in the Umulogho Community of Obowo council area of Imo State has been beheaded by yet-to-be-identified assailant
Penpushing reports that decapitated remains of the student who hailed from Abia State were discovered on Thursday evening in her hostel room in Umulogho, while sources from the community said neighbours forced her door open when she neither stepped out nor responded to repeated knocks.
The victim, one of her neighbours who does not want her name in print explained that she had completed her midwifery programme and was undergoing post-basic training at the institution, adding that she was full of life a day earlier.
“When some people forced her door open, we found out the door was locked from inside. Her mobile phone was missing and her body was mutilated, the neigbour said.
Penpushing further reports that Imo State Police Command Public Relations Officer Henry Okoye, a deputy superintendent of police on Friday in a statement confirmed the tragic incident
“The Command is aware of the tragic incident involving the death of a female student of the College of Nursing, Umulogho, whose body was discovered in her private off-campus apartment’, Okoye, said.
Penpushing also reports that the police spokesperson stated that the divisional police officer in charge of the area visited the location alongside other operatives upon receiving the information.
The police image maker said the operatives subsequently recovered and deposited her body in the mortuary while investigations have commenced to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and arrest those responsible.
“Consequently, the (Imo State Police) Command appeals to students and members of the public to remain calm, assuring them that the situation is under control and that every effort is being made to ensure those behind the act are brought to justice,” he added.
