The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed that the explosion that occurred near the Nigerian Army’s Mogadishu cantonment in Abuja on Monday has killed a suspected suicide bomber
Penpushing reports that said the agency in a post on its X handle said the suicide bomber was trying to sneak into the barrack when the explosive detonated, adding that one other person was equally injured
“The suicide bomber died instantly leaving one passerby injured. The EOD unit of the NPF evacuated the injured to National Hospital and took over the scene for further investigation; bringing the operation to a close at 17:29hrs. Stakeholders present included NEMA, Military, NPF, DSS and FRSC’, the post reads
Penpushing further reports that Monday’s explosion makes it the seventh bomb incident recorded in Abuja and its environs since 2010 and the second since President Bola Tinubu assumed office.
The Nigerian Army it is recalled announced the explosion on its X handle Monday evening, adding that as at the time of filing this report the situation was under control, and promised to provide additional details on the incident
Penpushing also reports that as at Tuesday, Army spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel, Appolonia Anele, could not be reached for comments and did not respond to calls, and a text sent to her had not been responded to.
The spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police command, Josephine Adeh, in a statement, said the operatives of Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) of the FCT Police Command have condoned off the area.
