The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), and the Students Union Government (SUG) of The Polytechnic, Ibadan on Tuesday blamed management of the institution over insecurity, which encourages activities of cultists in  the school campus.

Penpushing reports that, South-West Coordinator of the students body, Comrade Tegbe Stephen made this known in a statement  which was made available to journalist in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The Coordinator lamented that it was disheartening that management of the institution cannot provide adequate security for students in the school which has started giving the institution a bad name.

Penpushing further reports that, it is recalled that  no fewer than three students were reportedly affected in a gun battle that occurred on Monday at the north campus of the institution as a result of cult related activities.

The students union leader noted that it was  no longer news that maintenance of security in the campus has been a major challenges for the management of the institution, pointing out that the school is currently facing security threats from both internal and external sources.

Penpushing also reports that, Stephen, added that its now easy for anybody to just enter  through the school gate and unleash mayhem on unsuspecting students on campus, stating that the Student Union Government(SUG) of the school has however declared “Sit at Home” order to all students, following frequent unrest and heightening in the level of insecurity in the institution.

The Student Union Government(SUG) President, Adedeji Abdulazeez , urged all students to stay at home till resolutions are met concerning the alarming rate of insecurity in the school, stressing that students welfare remain priority .

“We urge all students to ‘STAY AT HOME’ for now till our resolutions are being met, we have made students’ welfare a priority and will not relent until normalcy is restored in all ramifications on campus; standard security  teams as well as a conducive learning environment for students is our right and not a privilege. The SUG body implores us all to kindly and positively bear with us on this decision. Thanks for your understanding’, the statement reads.’

Penpushing reports that the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Alhaji Soladoye Adewole when contacted on phone said he would get back soon, adding that as at the time of filing this report, the management was meeting.

“The management is currently in a meeting with the SUG, I will get back to you soon. We acknowledge some of their grievances, and we are on top of the situation, security agencies has been alerted about the situation, further development shall be communicated soon”, he said.
